Job Description | Part-time Worship Leader

Position Overview:

• The worship leader is responsible for preparing and leading worship at Portland Avenue on a weekly basis.
• Portland Avenue is a church family that values people and relationships over programs and performance. A worship leader should have gifts in music and worship, but also a servant’s heart for the lost and broken. We are also looking for someone who can balance the needs of an intergenerational church family.
• As a part-time position, we understand most candidates will have another job they work alongside this one, and so this position is very flexible and more about meeting the needs of the church family than “putting in the hours”.

 
Responsibilities:
Personal

• Maintain a consistent devotional life of personal worship, study, and spiritual growth.
• Maintain a healthy family life including marriage and parenting.
• Cultivate a learning lifestyle of personal growth and development.
• Seek to be engaged in personal evangelism through the building of witnessing relationships.
• Seek to love and minister to the people of Portland Avenue Baptist Church and to develop deeper relationships with the staff and church family.
• Manage personal finances, and ministry budgets as a good and faithful steward of God including biblical tithing.

 
Music/Worship Ministries

• Plan weekly worship service in conjunction with the pastor and provide to office no later than Thursday morning.
• Direct and lead the Sunday morning worship service.
• Lead worship as needed for special services, and to be available to lead worship with adults/students on Wednesday evenings as schedule allows.
• Conduct praise team/choral rehearsals and other instrumental rehearsals.
• Enlist and develop new instrumentalists and vocalists into the music ministry.
• Give oversight to sound and media ministries and those volunteers and see that the worship center is ready each Sunday morning which includes stage, lighting, media/Easy Worship, and heat/air.
• Post pertinent music ministry info to social media accounts.

 
Staff

• Participate in staff meetings through electronic means and in person.
• Available to assist in funerals and weddings as schedule allows.
• Other duties as assigned by pastor.
• Pastor will serve as supervisor to this position.
